WHAT IS AN IMPROV JAM?
An improv jam is a drop in session where anyone can turn up and join in with other improvisers. Together, we make up movements and sounds as we go along. The aim of the practice is to follow the flow of ideas emerging in the space, without judging what we do, see or hear. There is no right or wrong movement or sound in a jam. What matters is to create connections and make our responses relevant to what is happening in the room. For example, two people might mirror each other's movements. A suspension in the music could make them slow down or stop moving for a moment.
We have been facilitating online and in person improvisation jams since 2021.
Your IMPROV JAM FACILITATORS
Yanaëlle holds a Level 6 Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning. She facilitates creative contemporary dance sessions at The Place, on behalf of Sadler’s Wells, Trinity Laban, and other organisations.

WHO ARE THESE JAMS FOR?
Much like open mic events for poets and storytellers, our improv jams welcome amateurs as well as trained dancers, professional musicians and fine artists. We come together to build a community, feed our creative skills, and get inspired by each other.
Our sessions are donation-based and can be booked via Eventbrite. You can find the next jam dates, times and venues in our Calendar. See you in the studio!
